Our Mission

Among The Broken has committed to reach out to the hurting, those neglected and those far away from God with a sense of LOVE, COMPASSION, and GENEROSITY. This will be done primarily by the use of our spiritual calling, personal gifts and talents in order to fulfill God’s mission here on Earth, and to be the physical hands and feet of Jesus.

Our History

Among The Broken was founded by Miguel Meza on November 22, 2010. Among The Broken started out as the topic of an undergraduate term paper written by Miguel during his studies at Wayland Baptist University, San Antonio, in Christian Ministry. Miguel has attained a Bachelor and Masters in Christian Ministry.

During his studies, Miguel was assigned to write a term paper detailing the structure of a ministry. At the time, the title of the term paper was, “Among The Broken: a homeless ministry”. Soon after graduation in October 2010 Miguel recalled his term paper and wondered how hard would it be to put some of the ideas contained in the term paper into action. After consulting with some close friends, who would become long time supporters, Among The Broken set out to have their first event on Thanksgiving Day 2011. It all seemed pretty simple. Among The Broken collected blankets, slippers, socks, and personal hygiene items and they took them to a local nursing home and spent time with the residents. The “Among The Broken Thanksgiving Day Event” has become a staple event and has held 8 annual events through 2018.

From 2010 through 2018, Among The Broken has held 25 community service events.  Among The Broken has also had the privilege of providing wedding officiant services to 26 happily married couples.  In addition to the previous, Among The Broken has provided services for two child dedications and one funeral service.

Among The Broken has established partnerships to date with the following: Rockhills Church, Church Under The Bridge, The Sarah Roberts French Home, Habitat for Humanity, and The San Antonio AIDS Foundation.

Housing Development

Housing Development

At least once a year we join forces with a local organization to help build homes for residents of our city. It’s a great joy to provide this service as we work alongside the residents that will be living in that home.

HIV/AIDS Support

HIV/AIDS

Every fall we participate in the annual AIDS WALK. In doing so we not only help bring awareness to the community, but we also help raise funds so that people can continue to be provided with educational resources, free testings, and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Nursing Home Residents

Nursing Home Residents

Every Thanksgiving Day we hold an annual event to provide fellowship for nursing home residents. Over the past 5 years we have sponsored a facility that is home to 70 women with Alzheimer’s and or dementia.

Homeless Community

Homeless Community

Helping the homeless has been a big passion of ours.  On average, twice a year we hold a clothing drive to help provide for the homeless of our city.   We usually fill a U-haul, then we sort the donated items, and help distribute.
